وقد اعلن اتحاد الكرة المصرى فى وقت سابق عن اصابه اللاعب بقطع فى غضروف الركبه اثناء مشاركته فى تدريبات المنتخب , وقد صرح طبيب المنتخب محمد أبو العلا ان حمدى فتحى تعرض لالتواء فى الركبه مما اسفر عن قطع فى غضروف الركبه وتم التواصل بين طبيب المنتخب مع دكتور خالد محمود طبيب الاهلى واطلعه على التشخيص ونتائج الاشاعة التى اجراها اللاعب .
وايضا صرح الاتحاد المصرى انه سيتحمل تكاليف علاج اللاعب , حيث ان اللاعب تعرض للاصابه داخل معسكر المنتخب .
اما النادى الاهلى فقد اكد مصدر مسئول بعد التواصل الذى تم بين طبيب المنتخب وطبيب النادى الاهلى ان حجم الاصابه التى تعرض لها اللاعب مع المنتخب قد تستمر ما بين 6 اسابيع وثلاثه اشهر على حسب شكل القطع الذى تعرض له حمدى فتحى وعلى اثرة سيتحدد العلاج ومدة الغياب .
وقد شارك حمدى فتحى مع المنتخب المصرى فى مبارتين وديتين واحرز خلالهما هدفين وظهر بمظهر طيب للغايه ولكنه للاسف كان سئ الحظ واصيب ليبتعد عن المنتخب والنادى الاهلى فترة ليست بالقصيرة .
